The NC Tigers head to Washington DC on Saturday May 17 to open their 2014 season on the road against the Baltimore/Washington Eagles (BWE). Tigers players and staff will make the trip Friday night and Saturday morning for a 2pm start time at West Potomac Park in DC. The team has been training hard for the past couple of months under the guidance of Coach Wes Mac and the players are itching to put their hard work to good use.
The Tigers have a long and storied rivalry with BWE, a club they split a home and home fixture with in 2013. After a disappointing loss to the Eagles on the road to open last year’s campaign, the Tigers returned the favor later in the season, beating BWE in convincing fashion at the Tigerdome. The Tigers went on to compete in Division IV at nationals where they went 3-0 in pool A to reach the D4 Grand Final, scoring more combined points than any other club in all divisions along the way. The Eagles qualified for Division II at nationals where they found the going much tougher, ending the weekend with a 1-2 record in their pool.
The Tigers will look to take a strong side to DC where they will be hoping a good mixture of veteran experience and talented new recruits will be a key to success. Coach Wes has instilled flawless strategies and footy wisdom into his troops, and if the players can execute as well as they have at training, the result will be a winning brand of footy.
The NC Tigers are always looking for new faces to get involved with the club. If you or someone you know is interested in joining the Tigers in our 2014 campaign, or simply want to learn more about our club or Aussie Rules Football in general, please contact us!
