EVENT: 2005 MetroFooty Finals
DATE: October 22, 2005.
LOCATION: Morehead City, NC

2005 Metrofooty Finals – (Morehead City, NC) With the Tigers season completed all eyes turned to the only footy action in town, Metrofooty. Also known as 9-sided footy, this high scoring brand of footy was played on a smaller field and with only 9 players from each team on the field at one time. The 2005 Metrofooty Finals marked the end of the inaugural season. It was a season dominated by the Wolves. Led by their Captain/Coach, Phil Schriebman, the Wolves managed to record 5 straight wins before losing the final game of the season. Their 5-1 record still earned them the regular season championship. The battle for second place and the right to play the Wolves in the championship was close and came down to the final game in Chapel Hill. The Capitals (2-4) defeated the Wolves and found themselves in second place, by percentage, over the Rams (2-4). With the teams set, the location for the final was chosen. It was Footy at the Beach. The teams traveled to the North Carolina coast to play in Morehead City. The weather was perfect for late autumn footy. In front of a crowd of nearly 20 people, the ball went up to start the match. Both teams played a hard and relatively even first quarter. The Wolves kicked two more goals than the Capitals, putting them on top 5.3.(33) to 3.3.(21). The Wolves continued their goal scoring ways in the second quarter while the Capitals were only able to kick the ball through the goal post once. The Wolves moved to a demanding halftime lead.. 9.4.(28) to 4.4.(28). It only worsened for the Capitals in the 3rd quarter. The long kicking and fast ball play paid off for the Wolves as they re-defined the Premiership Quarter by creating an insurmountable lead. At the end of the 3rd quarter the Wolves were running away with a score of 15.5.(95) to 5.7.(37). Just when one would think it could not get worse for the Capitals, it did. They were held pointless in the final quarter as both teams realized the game was out of reach. The Wolves continued the onslaught and kicked ten 4th quarter goals giving them a convincing win and the 2005 McElvaney Cup.
Final score: Wovles 25.13.(163) def. Capitals 5.7.(37).

The Tigers would like to thank Ben Hess for opening his home, kitchen, backyard, and mostly, his grill to his fellow players. The entire weekend was much enjoyed by everyone. The American players learned how to play cricket and the Australians learned to throw an American football. Hopefully, this past weekend will set a trend for Metro Finals to come.
