2018 Carolina Cup Champions!

The 2018 season started on a gorgeous, 70-degree Saturday afternoon in Wilmington, North Carolina where one of Tigers greatest rivals The Baltimore Dockers showed in abundance and hungry for Tigers’s blood! With the wind at their backs, the Dockers fired one through within the first couple of minutes and a second goal shortly after leading the end of the first quarter 14-9. Heading into the second quarter and having the wind to their favor, the Tigers had many shots on goal, but could not capitalize through the middle allowing the Dockers to continue their lead of 22-11.

However, some adjustments and words of encouragement at the start of the third quarter prove to be best for the Mighty Tigers as a new member Jake Aulner, formerly a Golden Gate Roo, was aggressive to the ball to allow shots on goal. Big Dave Seymour rucked the majority of the game and kept the middle on lockdown against the Dockers while managing to punch one through. Our trusty defenders, Andrew Wesche, Matt Sherman, and Dennis Kurtz stopped the Dockers in their tracks to end the quarter at 22-22. At the start of the fourth, the momentum of the Tigers and help from the wind was too much for the Dockers and the Tigers began to pull away. Tom Sheldon, a former UNC punter, used his big kick to keep the ball on the Dockers’s side, which led to more opportunities for the Tigers to seal-the-deal at 41-34! A large turnout from both teams led to a fantastic match and social gathering to follow.

Big First Practice

The North Carolina Tigers first practice was on Saturday and it was a huge success. A total of 15 players showed up with many new faces! The weather was sunny and a bit chilly with the blistering wind, but that didn’t stop the mighty Tigers from shaking off the cobwebs with hand and kicking drills.

The 2018 season may also see the return of a NC Tiger veteran, Nick Camilleri. Nick is an aussie transplant who has been a leader on and off the field, but was out last season due to injury. With new recruits and the return of a seasoned veteran, stay tuned for a very exciting season!

Tigers continue their undefeated season to Nationals!

The Baltimore Washington Eagles Australian Rules Football Club hosted “A Day of Aussie Football in DC” in early September. Both women and men’s teams joined in the Capital for a fantastic day of footy.

The Tigers were looking to continue their winning record against theaus Eagles’ B team as the first quarter was very tight, but the mighty Tigers pulled away in the second quarter. However, don’t underestimate the Eagles as they were able to catch up to only a 4-point deficit. With some big goals from Tiger’s Austin Doerr and Mike Hoffmann, the Tigers were able to seal the deal 59-47!

Big win at home

Apologies for not posting earlier! Towards the end of August, the Atlanta Kookaburras traveled to Tiger territory for a gorgeous Saturday night game. The match was hosted at the beautiful MAC Sport and Entertainment Center with recently renovated fields. The NC Tigers had a huge showing of roughly 30 gents, so we gave a few to the Kookaburras.

The first quarter was relatively even until the first goal was scored by David Seymour, an Englishman and a great addition to the Tigers. The NC Tigers began to pull away in the second and third quarter, but some adjustments on the Kookaburras side in the fourth closed the gap, but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers won with a 20-point lead!
